Ok I absolutely missed a lot of WordCamps but at least I could attend this one virtually.

There were some interesting talks about Gutenberg Blocks and I was impressed with how seamlessly the speakers were able to move to using the online platform to give their talks instead of in-person.

I and many people loved going to the talks live which will hopefully be coming back after this pandemic but for now online is the best we can get.

This was the last WordCamp I attended before COVID and little did I know but it was just under the wire. I went to this event with my friend Evan who goes with me to many of the fun WordCamp events.

This event was held right nearby where I was staying at the John Molson School of Business building at Concordia University. Aside from having a nice venue, there were interesting talks about the UX, generating revenue, the JAM Stack and much more.

It was cool to visit another country and then to also learn about WordPress, the thing I love. We had friends who lived in the area who knew of some great places to eat and visit. I had a great time, and I hope all of my future WordCamp experiences are that great.

Nashville Part II

Nashville is awesome, this is the second year that I have been able to come here for WordCamp US. I was here for the event last year but this year my friend Evan came with me and it was a lot of fun. There were some great talks on Gutenberg and ARIA which I found very interesting. Obviously this is not how I SHOULD be judging this event but the food they gave for lunch was simply amazing.

In addition to the WordCamp which was very cool and interesting, being in Nashville was fun. The people are nice there and the food was amazing. I have to give a shout out to Hattie B’s (not that they even need shoutouts because they offer such a great product) but I went there and got hot chicken, a nice cold beer and some mac and cheese that would amaze even someone who doesn’t like that stuff.

The State of the Word (delivered every year by one of the founders of WordPress, Matt Mullenweg, was great as usual and instructed us to continue learning more about Gutenberg and the cool functionality it brings.

I was an Organizer at WordCamp NYC 2017! For anyone that was there, I was one of the camera operators and I was an introducer for a few people because someone did not show up so I filled in for them.

Being an organizer for a WordCamp was a fun experience and it is definitely something I plan on doing again in some capacity!

Going to WordCamp Boston was especially fun for me because the event was held at Boston University and I went their for some of my college education. The event was very interesting and I picked up some new security tips that I had not previously considered.

I stayed with my Aunt and Uncle who live outside of the city. I felt bad because I had to leave before they woke up and I got home after they went to sleep, but thanks to them all the same for hosting me while I was in town.

This was SUCH a fun WordCamp. I met my friend Evan there and we attended all of the same talks. It was at this awesome IMET center (apparently it stands for Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology but I did not see anything Marine-y or Environmental-y there, it just looked like an awesome campus). There were some great talks about javascript integration and WordPress sitemap design.

This was a very nice WordCamp, interesting talks all day AND an awesome ice cream party at the end of it all.

I just went to WordCamp Atlanta and it was awesome. This was a relatively small WordCamp, but there were plenty of interesting talks and people to meet. There was more of a focus on the Genesis framework than I usually see. My brother came with me on this adventure so we also went to the Coke Museum afterwards. I know that last bit about the museum is not really relevant to WordPress persay, but I just had a lot of fun so I am bringing it up.

Ok, maybe this blogpost should not have the category “Travel” because this event was right near my home, but it was fun. The event started with a contributor’s day which I like. That is the day when all us users of WordPress give back to the great platform and create new features, answer forum questions, translate plugins or contribute in any way we can. I answered questions on the “Developing with WordPress” support forums, my usual contribution.

Then there were just two solid days of good talks from everything from designing your WordPress site to creating RESTful APIs with your WordPress site.

Not only were there cool talks, but there was a street fair happening right outside during the event. If you know me at all, you know I am not going to pass up a street fair so I was able to get lunch outside at the fair as well as buy some of the cool stuff the street vendors were offering.
